Expected Learning Outcomes

Learning and development of knowledge and skills for data analysis

Course Structure

Lectures, data collection from official sources, exercises on spreadsheets, and resolution of application problems in order to know useful tools for the development of skills aimed at the address of studies of the degree course.

Required Prerequisites

Knowledge of logic and mathematics at the higher school level. Excel spreadsheet calculation skills.

Attendance of Lessons

Strongly recommended with constant monitoring of exercises performed to access ongoing checks.

Detailed Course Content

Statistics and its aims - Mass phenomena - Levels of measurement - Simple statistical distributions - Frequency density - Tabular and graphical representations

Measures of central tendency - Measures of variability - Concentration - Shape indices - Index numbers

Measures of relationships between two variables - Linear relationships

Probability - Probability distributions for discrete and continuous random variables

Statistical inference - Parameter estimation and hypothesis testing on a single population and comparisons between two populations

Test on frequency data and analysis of the tables contingency.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The written test is mandatory and involves solving problems and open-ended questions. The test is considered passed if the student receives a total mark of not less than 18/30. The oral exam is mandatory.
