Danilo Di Mauro is Associate professor of political science at the University of Catania. He holds a PhD in political science from the Italian Institute of Human Sciences -SUM (now Scuola Normale Superiore, Florence). He was Marie Curie Research Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) and post-doc fellow at the University of Siena, the University of Catania and the Unitelma Sapienza-University of Rome. He worked as a research collaborator for the European Democracy Observatory (EUDO) and for the Global Governance Program (RSCAS) at the EUI. He participated in 7FP and Horizon2020 projects (Europolis, Transword, EUENGAGE, PROTECT and ELECDEM), focusing on immigration, security, conflict analysis, European integration, public opinion, Euroscepticism and other related topics.
In 2018 he was awarded the Giovanni Sartori Prize for the best article that appeared in the Italian Review of Political Science, the "prereg prize" of the Center for Open Science (COS – US) and the Italian Society for Electoral Studies (ITANES) prize for the "Prereg Challenge".
He is the author of the monographs “The UN in the Arab-Israeli Conflict (Routledge, 2012), “Attitudes Towards Europe Beyond Euroscepticism” (Palgrave 2016), and “Public opinion and disunity over EU integration” (Routledge-EUACES, 2025-2026). His articles have been published in several scientific journals such as Journal of European Public Policy (JEPP), the Journal of Common Market Studies (JCMS), European Union Politics (EUP), Comparative European Politics (CEP), Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties, the Italian Political Science Review, Acta Politica, Perspectives on European Politics and Society, and others. Along with Prof. Ulrich Krotz, he developed the “EU’s Global Engagement dataset” on EU-CSDP missions and operations worldwide.
He teaches at the University of Catania undergraduate and graduate courses in subjects related to political science, such as public policies and governance systems, Political Science, and European Security and Defense Policy. He is a vice-coordinator of the PhD program in Political Science at the University of Catania and member of the steering committee of the Master in Public Management of Local Development, where he conducts annual seminars.
He is currently involved in several international projects such as Jean Monnet Center of Excellence DIPLOWideMed, the Cost Action EUpopLink (CA 23102) and the national project “Winter Sovereignty?”. He is a department delegate for international relations - EUNICE.
