Expected Learning Outcomes

1)Knowledge and understanding

The course aims at giving a clear picture of mass media processes and development. Indeed, they play an important role to understand the contemporary tools of communication. 


2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding

The analysis of case studies and digital platforms will aim at improving and developing soft skills for communication.


3) Autonomy of judgment

The proposal for a debate on present cases and topical issues is aimed at understanding and developing critical thinking on social and ethical issues related to the media ecosystem.


4) Communication skills

The collection of a number of theories, practices and cases provides students with a good body of knowledge to improve their skills in the field of professional digital communication.

Required Prerequisites

Knowledge of 20th-century political and cultural phenomena, cultural processes of the last twenty years, and daily use of the internet and its main services.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

contemporary society through the study of methodologies and descriptions of the main authors who have dealt with social changes since the introduction of mass media. Students will also be required to demonstrate that they have acquired basic knowledge of the development of digital media and basic knowledge of online communication theories and techniques. 

The exam will be assessed on the basis of the candidate's mastery of the content and skills acquired, linguistic accuracy and lexical appropriateness, as well as their ability to argue a point. In order to pass the exam, it is essential to demonstrate that you meet the prerequisites.

Laboratory activities: 12 hours of activities involving the analysis of gender representations in the media and the creation of a digital communication campaign for the public administration. The campaign must be accompanied by a final report.
