Criminal Law and Criminology

The aim of the course of Penal Law and Criminology is the acquisition of deep knowledge about the phenomenon of criminality, the way it is perceived, defined and faced. The study begins with the analysis of historical, social and cultural conditions that led to the birth of criminology; then, it is analysed the relationship among penal law, criminology, criminal sociology and psycology. The second part of the course deals with organised criminality and the crimes agaist public administration.

Interactionist perspective in sociology of deviance and crime. Labeling theory and total institutions. The contributions of psychology and studies concerningaggression. The prison. Historical analysis and specific problems of imprisonment Penitentiary system. Alternative measures to detention.
