Expected Learning Outcomes

The course introduces students to the fundamentals of evaluation logic and the main evaluation theories found in the literature, with particular reference to aspects related to program-based evaluation. It also provides an in-depth look at the processes, tools, and role of monitoring in planning and evaluation processes.

Main learning outcomes:

Knowledge and understanding: fundamentals of evaluation logic and main evaluation theories, with a focus on theory-based evaluation.

Application skills: use of methods and tools for monitoring and evaluating social programs and policies.

Independent judgment: critical ability to compare evaluation approaches and evaluate outcomes.

Communication skills: clear and concise presentation of evaluation results.

Learning skills: independence in studying scientific literature and research reports.

Course Structure

In addition to lectures: case study exercises, seminar discussions, and use of digital tools for evaluative analysis.

Required Prerequisites

Basic sociological knowledge. Notions on social policies and social research methodology

Attendance of Lessons

Strongly recommended for the empirical applications, the case studies proposed and to access to the mid-term verification

Detailed Course Content

This  module introduces the evaluation logic basics, the main evaluation theories with particular reference to Theory Based Evaluation. The module also provide theoretical and practical knowledge on processes, tools and roles of monitoring in the planning and evaluation processes.
