Expected Learning Outcomes

 The educational goals of this course are coherent with the L-LIN/12 sector. Indeed, they are focused on the study of the English language at a B1+/B2 level of competence in English of the Common European Framework. The educational goals are also coherent with those of the Master's Degree in Management of the Public Administration where the course is held (with reference to AREA 10), as it is focused on English for Specific Purposes (elements of Business English and Legal English)

Course Structure

Lessons, pair work and group work, reading activities, translation, listening activities, videos. 

Required Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary (at least B1 CEFR)

Detailed Course Content

English Business Communication. The course aims at enhancing students' communication skill in a professional setting, with a specific focus on Business English and Legal English. Most specifically, students will expand their vocabulary regarding professional fields of their interest, they will strengthen their reading, listening and writing skills, and will draft short texts (emails, CVs, presentations).

Selection of texts taken from different sources. Links to texts and videos discussed in class, as well as the course slides, will be published in the file folder (Studium).

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

Written test (B1+/B2 CEFR): reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing. As for the oral exam, students will be expected to discuss a portfolio of 5 texts of their choice related to the topics dealt in class (newspaper articles, magazine articles, webpages, blog posts, etc).
On exam days, the written test will take place in the morning and the oral interview will begin later (late morning/early afternoon). Written and oral tests can be taken separately, but students are expected to complete the exam within 12 months.

Examples of listening, reading and writing exercises in preparation for the Written Test will be provided during the course.
