  • Biography:

    Luca Ruggiero received his BA degree from the University of Catania (IT) , MA from the University of Warwick (UK) and PhD from the University of Sassari (IT). He is currently Full Professor of Economic and Political Geography at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Catania. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Italian Geographical Society (SGI). His latest research interests and publications lie with competing visions and politics of “the smart city” and with the relationship between the urban commons and creative city models.

    In 2018 he received the Jim Lewis prize for the most innovative article published in 2016 in the academic journal European Urban and Regional Studies.

    From 2014 to 2018 was the coodinator of the MA programme in Global Politics and Euro-Mediterranean Relations, the only degree course in the field of the social sciences of the University of Catania totally held in English and in collaboration with the University of Liege (Belgium), UPEC (Paris) and University of Flensburg (Germany).

2016-2019 MIUR PRIN 2015 (National Research Project (PRIN) co - financed by MIUR (Ministry of University and Research) Research title : 'Territorial Impact Assessment of Territorial Cohesion in the Italian regions. Place-evidence model for policies evaluation towards the Green economy development in internal areas and metropolitan peripheries'.
