Course of Research Design and Methods in Political Science - prof. Carammia

Course of Research Design and Methods in Political ScienceJean Monnet Chair Challenges to Democracy and Representation in the EU – EuDARe

Starting from March 2024, the course of Political Science Research – Design and Methods (6 CFU), part of the Master Programme in Data Science, will be part of the Jean Monnet Chair EuDARe coordinated by prof. Marcello Carammia and will therefore be hosted at the Department of Political and Social Sciences.

The course will provide the instruments needed to do research in political science, and it is open to all interested students who can choose it as an elective course. The course does not assume any previous knowledge of methodology or statistics.

The course will combine frontal teaching with lab sessions to expose students to the entire research cycle: formulation of a research question, construction of a theory, choice of a research design appropriate to the given problem, selection and analysis of empirical data. During the course, the students will be exposed to the most recent methods for research design and to fundamental applications of data science. Throughout the course, students will develop their own research project, which will be the object of the final assessment.

The course will start on 27th March and will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 16.00-18.00 (aula A4 - via Gravina). Starting from the third week, the lab sessions will be starting and the Thu-Fri meetings will last one hour longer.

Feel free to contact Prof Marcello Carammia at marcello.carammia@unict.it for queries.

The course can be chosen also an elective course by the Glopem students.
