Political philosophy

The aim of the course is to foster the ability to analyze problems relating to the theories of justice with particular regard to issues relating to the promotion and protection of human rights in the light of a philosophical-political perspective.

The course addresses the relationship between philosophical and political reflection and the genesis and development of human rights. The first part, "General Theory of Human Rights," aims to provide, through a broad and in-depth analysis of major philosophical and political theories, adequate knowledge and skills for navigating and understanding issues related to the nature and function of human rights in contemporary societies. In the second part, "Applicative Questions of Human Rights," the course will focus on the relationship between theory and political practice. The primary objective is to stimulate reflection on the institutional applicability of the theories and approaches examined in the first part of the course. In this regard, particular attention will be paid to the political and institutional dynamics resulting from globalization and the analysis of political institutions in the Euro-Mediterranean geopolitical context.

Questions will focus on the topics and theories covered and discussed in the program. The objective is to verify the acquisition of satisfactory knowledge and a good ability to analyze and understand relevant issues.
