Workshops Knowing contemporary Africa: press review, music and radio broadcast (Job Abilities)
The Study Centre on the Contemporary Muslim World and Africa (CoSMICA) of the University of Catania has organised for the academic year 2015-16 the workshops Knowing contemporary Africa: press review, music and radio broadcasts. The initiative is part of the broader project African Intersections, launched in collaboration with Isola Quassùd and Radio Zammù, which will culminate in the Conference of the Association for African Studies in Italy (ASAI), scheduled for next September (Catania, 22-24 September 2016).
The 18 hours course (which is part of the Job Abilities activities) is articulated in common classes and group works focusing on different African countries (Egypt, Eritrea, Senegal/Gambia, Sudan). Knowledge of English and/or French is required.
The first phase of the workshops (12 hours) is intended to analyse online newspapers of the selected African countries and to provide basic knowledge about how to prepare a press review and a radio broadcast. In the second part of the course (4 hours) students will take part in a radio broadcast on Radio Zammù, scheduled for late April and May.
The workshops will start on 4 April in room L (third floor of Palazzo Pedegaggi – Via Vittorio Emanuele 49) and will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm. Students will be informed of any change to the course hours at the beginning of the activities. The deadline for registration is 10 March 2016.
